Totally awesome!

I want a pair!

Funny story that relates to your totally awesome shoes... I was staying with friends in Sicily a couple of years ago, and my girlfriend was desperate for a pair of new sandals. But stuff like that is incredibly pricey over there, and she didn't have enough euro to buy what she wanted. (And she wouldn't let me purchase them for her).

So... I devised a plan to dismantle a pair of her old dead shoes and make new ones. I used strips of silk that we had dyed using soy milk and rust, (ask, and ye shall receive..), hemp rope, glue, and industrial sewing thread. I wove the silk into great long ropes, and lined the insoles and the outer soles of the shoe base with the hemp rope. I stitched the whole thing together to make some very stylish silk sandals that tied up around her ankles. They were so beautiful -- I doubt I could make them again, but your shoes made me remember the story.

Thanks for sharing your creativity!

I saw that in my feeds and was so excited that I recognized it from you posting it here! VERY cool!
Wow... those sandals sound totally impressive! I kind of feel like my knitted shoes are silly child's play now, hehe.

I mean, dyeing with soy milk and rust?! I never would have thought of such a thing! That's just awesome.
LOL! And I'm excited that someone else reading Craft recognized me from elsewhere! Haha! I'm such a dork, I swear. :)

Thanks Kristine!

These are amazing! You give a whole new meaning to 'recycling' - these shoes look better than something you could buy at a store.
